One thing I found interesting when researching this post was how few e-commerce retailers actually have email sign up pages. The majority of retailers offer the small form on the bottom of all pages allowing customers to sign up any time they wish, and while this method works in some cases we must not forget that marketing to our customers via email is a privalige. Thats why I like the idea of creating an email sign up page to give the customer a taste of what they are going to be recieving. If they don't like it, we don't want them on our list.
