Magento Commerce Enterprise Edition PDF Print E-mail

Varien has just released Magento Commerce Enterprise Edition.  Open source e-commerce just got a lot more expensive....

First things first.  I'd like to just go ahead and get it out in the open that I'm not a fan of Magento.  I've felt that from day one the product was developed in a way to require users to seek paid support due to the complexity of the application.  I'm not talking about adding new functionality, I'm talking about really small things like editing the navigation links, or changing the footer.  These things are easy to do in every other system I've ever used, but abstracted by complex XML files and directory structures in Magento.

So now with that out there, lets take a look at the new Magento Enterprise Edition...

It costs $9k a year, yeah that's right nine grand a year.  So I think we can see the final plan coming into play here.  Hold back the best features, make the system very criptic and hard to master and then charge for the rest.  Just as I predicted, its all about the money.

I'd much rather they just come out with a great system and charge a few hundred dollars for it.  They would have made so much more money that way rather than working so hard to build a community and then taking advantage of them.  The magento team is notorious for not responding to posts on the magento forums...I guess now we know why, it was always about the money.
